Homemade Nutella

Teri-Ann Carty
I have a confession to make. I never liked Nutella. Probably not the best way to sell you on this recipe but I have to be transparent. Maybe it's because I find the store bought kind too sweet but until I made my own, I was never a fan. Nutella is predominantly made up of roasted hazelnuts, a sweetener and chocolate. My nutella has wholesome ingredients like olive oil, cane sugar and vanilla. It's the magic ingredient in my newest granola flavour and I can't wait for you to try it!

Equipment

  • food processor
  • baking sheet oven

Ingredients

  • 3 cups raw hazelnuts
  • ¼ cup cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ¼ cup coconut sugar
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • cup dark chocolate chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350d. Spread hazelnuts onto a baking sheet.
  • Roast hazelnuts for 15 minutes.
  • Spread hot nuts onto a clean kitchen towel. Rub them until the majority of the skins have been removed.
  • Place warm nuts into food processor. Process until nuts break down and become smooth. Scrape down sides as needed. This should take approximately 5-6 minutes.
  • Add remaining ingredients and until smooth and creamy. Pour into a jar sealed with a lid.

Notes

To make your life easier you can purchase hazelnuts with the skin already removed. If you choose to buy hazelnuts with the skin, don't worry if you can't remove all of the skin. Your nutella will still be amazing!
I try to steer clear of chocolate chips for this one but if that is all you have use them!
